Thank Your Favorite Teacher

Gateway Public Schools COVID-19 Response Team, first remote Zoom meeting, March 2020

This picture represents the beginning of our distance learning adventure back in mid-March. In some ways, not much has changed: unknowns still abound, and we are still at home, working together to figure out how to do right by our students, families and staff. While we might be a tad beaten down on the outside, we each still possess the same inner well of strength and joy depicted here.

And, at the same time, we have grown as a result of these unexpected challenges, taking on new roles and responsibilities with commitment to finding solutions and unexpected wins. We have new members on our team, and we have learned so much from each other.

As the new year approaches, I am struck by how extraordinary these educators are, and I am also inspired by teachers and school leaders across the country who are trying to figure out how to make the seemingly impossible work. Teachers are innovators, artists, critical thinkers, caretakers, and pioneers, and they are being asked to do something brand new and critically important.

There is so much debate about the best way to move forward. But, I think we can all agree that teachers deserve our love and support. Now’s the time to thank your favorite teacher.

  1. Absolutely. Here is to our teachers. I can’t even imagine what has gone into (and continues to go into) planning for this coming year. Here is to all the warriors who bring their fierce magic to your kids!
